Emissions for the week ending 31 Aug 2007
Victoria’s emissions from energy are down 8.6% this week (188,000 tonnes), the biggest weekly change all year. Emissions are below 2 million tonnes for the first time since May. The drop is due to 33.2% (122,000 tonnes) less emissions from natural gas and 5.1% (65,000 tonnes) less emissions from coal-fired electricity. Warmer weather is likely to be the major factor, especially for the significant decline in gas use. This week’s Indicator is 29.3% above the 1990 weekly average for energy.
